The book contains essays by Calvin Winner and Tania Moore, exhibition curators at the Sainsbury Centre who provide a new critical assessment of Frink's work. This exhibition aims to position Frink as one of the most important British sculptors of the twentieth century and place her work in the context of other modern masters, contemporary artists and ancient art. By the time she died in 1992 at the age of 62, she was one of the most important British sculptors of her generation. Frink emerged in the early 1950's as a highly original, expressive and imaginative sculptor producing a remarkable body of work from a very young age. Contemporary artists include Rebecca Warren and Douglas Gordon. Linked with the group of post-war British sculptors that included Reg Butler and Eduardo Paolozzi, she is perhaps best known for her expressionistic animal. Featuring over 100 works by Frink, as well as works by modern masters including Giacometti, Richier, Rodin, Picasso, Bourgeois, Marini, Bacon, Moore, Paolozzi, Chadwick and many others.
